Course Overview

STEMLinc Video Conference: Bug catchers grab your nets!  Our very special guest, Tasmanian Entomologist, Shasta Henry will lead these engaging sessions. Get up close and personal with some fabulous insects to appreciate and explore the scientific concept of life cycles. Discuss how environmental factors affect the life cycles.  Understand that different animals have different life cycles and that environmental factors can affect these life cycles.  This session is suitable for classroom or learning from home.

Year Level: 3 – 4

Duration: 1 hour

You will receive hands-on materials (for printing) and a teacher guide for this session.

Background Information:

Learning Intentions:

In this program students will:

  • Learn how life cycles differ between animals,
  • Determine how environmental factors can affect life cycles.

Activities:

In this program students will:

  • Observe a number of Sashta’s favourite insects and bugs
  • Discuss habitat requirements and features
  • Sequence the life cycles through role-play
  • Discuss how environmental factors affect the life cycles.
