Course Overview

STEMLinc Video Conference: Let Ranger Nicole engage your students as they experience the amazing, crazy critters in wetlands. Go on a virtual tour of the Ecolinc wetland to discover the tiny creatures and the larger animals that eat them. Explore their interactions with one another through food chains and food webs. Background Information:

Wetland organisms have features which help them to survive and their survival is dependent on specific physical conditions.

Prior Knowledge:

No prior knowledge needed.

Learning Intentions:

In this program students will:

  • Explore wetland organism interactions.

Activities:

In this program students will:

  • Observe wetland organisms and discuss their specific features,
  • Identify producers and consumers (including herbivores, carnivores and omnivores) in the wetland ecosystem and explain how they generate energy,
  • Construct a wetland food web,
  • Discover how energy is transferred through the wetland ecosystem,
  • Understand that all organisms are connected in the ecosystem.

  • Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment (VCSSU074)
  • The growth and survival of living things are affected by the physical conditions of their environment (VCSSU075)
