My Little Dino

STEMLinc Video Conference: “I always wanted my very own dinosaur.  Then my parents found one for me deep in an Australian mine!”  Explore some extra dimensions of this short storybook written by child author Leaellyn Rich and discover how palaeontologists reconstructed one new Australian dinosaur by digging for fossil remains.  Students will use art to explore the adaptations of an Australian dinosaur and dig through the layers of time to uncover fossil secrets along the Victorian coastline. Background Information:

Dinosaur Cove is located near Warnambool on Victoria’s shipwreck coast.  It is home to a recent dig site where new species of Australian dinosaurs were unearthed.  Follow the true story of one child’s involvement in this process as she assisted her Palaeontologist parents to make her dream come true.

• Reconstruct a dinosaur’s appearance based on a fossilized skeleton
• Discuss the habitat and features of the Leaellynasaura
• Sequence soil layers in time
• Discuss how environmental factors affect adaptations
